Weather – Wind is picking up.

It has been quite blustery the past few days. It looks as if the UK is getting the tail end of the hurricanes as they track across the atlantic on the gulf stream, after they have battered the east coast of America. They seem to be tracking higher up the east coast of the US than usual, it will be interesting to see if this means that the UK will get a battering too.

I think we had the tail end of Irene last weekend, and the weather has stayed fairly unsettled since then. But it looks as much worse could be on the way, and Katia looks particularly intense.

I’ve been following their progress and the forecast from the magicseaweed websites pressure charts.

Godetia

One of our best discoveries for the garden this year has been Godetia. I think they were bought by accident, so they were sown around the middle of may, after all the planned seedlings were potted on we were left with these godetia seedlings. we didn’t know what to do with them so they stayed in their seed trays for a few weeks, they became rather straggly and didn’t look up to much at all. But Fliss potted them on, all of them going straight into a 10in (or thereabouts) terracotta pot.

Here’s a picture of what they eventually looked like. Next year the paln is to sow then directly into the flower beds, I think they should do quite well.

It’s been unseasonally cool this year, but the last few days has seen some periods of sunshine. It feels so good on my old bones, seems like my whole body smiles once the sun is out.

I’m not looking forward to winter, dread to think if it’s going to be like last year which was so cold.

No rainfall to report. Last weekend saw 85mm of rain in 36 hours. Pressure has been hovering arounf 1012 mbars for weeks, it did drop a bit last weekend but only dowm to 1003, and it did reach 1020 yesterday. Sounds settled in someways, but settled unsettled…

Tunes. I woke up this morning and I had a Robert Wyatt tune tripping through my head. Odd really as I’ve not heard it for a few years. So as it’s still tripping through my brain here it is on youtube (which version… )

Think I’ll go with a recent version, cos Robert’s voice is just so good on this, nice violin too

Heavy dark clouds to the west, and the air feels quite heavy and oppresive, though strangely the humidity level is not that high.

When I started writing this the air was still, there’s a bit of movement now, and it seems a bit cooler, quite a sudden change, in fact the temp is now 19 c, better get ready to get that washing in that has just gone out…

It would be good to get a weather vane and wind speed indicator. It is quite breezy at times.

I’m looking forward to watching ‘Who Do You Think You Are‘ later today. A new series, and according to the preview I’ve just listened to, tonight’s episode with June Brown (Dot Cotton) of Eastenders fame is a cracker of an episode.

I can’t stand the smell of gloss paint, within seconds of a tin being opened I get a cracking headache, and the stink lingers for days. I suppose it has to be done…. yeuch!

I couldn’t believe what was happening in London last night, really very scary, so many fires, someone is going to die before long, if they haven’t already.

Good sunshine today, still quite a bit of broken cloud but that gives the day a bit of variety. Nice clouds too.

The pressure is on the rise, so hopefully we’ll get a few fine days.

Weather Update – Cacti

A sunny day, well, good intervals of sun, a bit cloudy this morning, and clearing as the day goes on. Quite warm this afternoon. Not much rain last night, just 5mm.

Spent a wee while footling in the cacti shed, they are growing well at the moment, seem to be at peak growth. I took a few offsets a few weeks ago, and they seem to have taken well to their new home. Last years offsets have just started flowering, not sure what the cactus is, could be a parodia with a nice deep red flower, must get a picture sometime.

Oysterband _ player – Gig nov1

Going to see the Oysterband on the 1st November. I haven’t seen them for a few years, so quite looking forward to it. It’s at St. Georges in Bristol, which is just off Park Street. A good little venue, should be good.
