I’m now looking north to Durham, and South Shields in particular. It seems that A greatGF and his father were master mariners. Curiously there is a Maritime school in South Shields. It was founded in 1839, so spans both the GGF and GGGF lives.
There is a little uncertainty over this line but it’s matching previous work done by my brother.
The picture above was taken in the summer of 1960. It was common for us to host Sunday dinners for a varying crowd of extended family members. No wonder mum is hiding, she must have been exhausted cooking for that lot.
I was 1 year old, and not in the front row.
