Cassie the Gas

Over the past few weeks we’ve been seeing these rather large green beetles in the garden. About 1 inch by 1/2 inch and a fantastic metallic green, with hints of blue and purple in the sheen.

Cas finds them quite amusing, and they become the perfect lino puck.

The picture was taken as she climbed into a spirea bush whilst on the trail of one of the green beetles. Just after this photo was taken, the branch broke off, saving the beetle from living out the rest of it’s life as a lino puck, and Cas looking a bit miffed…

  1. Lol. Beautiful cat! From your description, those beetles are wonderful to look at also I bet. Happy Day to you!

  2. Wonder what they are? Have you identified them? Our cat is still bringing back mice and rats, delightful!

  3. Thanks H and Grace, cass is full of energy, like a coiled up spring….
Here they are Jo, the rose chafer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetonia_aurata

though might be the noble chafer, will have to look for triangles on their back to tell tthe difference. I’ve not seen them here before, but there have been a lot of them.

I hope cass sticks with insects, don’t fancy rats at all, not dead ones at any rate.
